Collection Croisière

As the tides around 2017 Resort (also known as Cruise) collections advance, the steady waves of the current collection are often overlooked; we're often more roused by what will be rather than what is. However, the resort collections of 2016 are not a year away like the 2017 collections that everyone currently covets, they are here and they are now, and they are equally as sensational as any 2017 Resort collection.

Le collection croisière, initially intended for wealthy jet-setters; of whom possibly needed a way to spend their money between Autumn/Winter and Spring/Summer collections, was built around the resort and cruise holidays that these wealthy spenders would be venturing on; think St Tropez, Rio, Marrakech. Pierre Cardin’s 'Le Palais Bulles' was the setting for Christian Dior’s 2016 Resort show, and if a pink bubble architectural wonder, located between Monaco and Cannes does not summarise Resort, I can’t fathom what would.

Common Denominators

As anyone acquainted with fashion would know, trends are simply a matter of common denominators manifesting in several shows. The trends of Resort 2016 were very much embellishments of the trends SS16. Some of the most prevalent trends, that have seep into high street stores such as Zara, H&M, sister brand & Other Stories and Whistles were;

Faraway Florals

Florals are always coming in and out of fashion, but for Resort 2016 the trend to a very specific avenue. The florals this season were exotic very much like the locations of the runway shows and the locations the jet-setting folk of which the season was built for would be travelling to. Palm prints, lotus flowers and orchids eclipse the paisley prints of autumn/winter collections.

Pleats Please

Pastel pleats were a micro-trend; seen at Christopher Kane and Altuzurra, pretty pastels were made contemporary by articulate pleats and a-line tops. A trend that follows through into Autumn/Winter 2016.

Frills For Days

Structural spirals, frills and ruffles were seen bellowing from necklines, sleeves and waistlines at Ellery, Lanvin and of course ruffle aficionado Rosie Assoulin. Ruffles often denote femininity, yet the abundance of the ruffles of Resort 2016 are bold and brazen.

Cold Shoulder

Shoulders and decollate are one of the most under esteemed parts of the female body, and one that most women aren’t ashamed of. For the last three seasons designers have picked up on this and the cold shoulder has been one of the most pervasive trends.
